Once you're there, Valletta is a joy to wander around. Its cobbled streets, colourful wooden balconies and the Upper Barrakka Gardens, with views over the harbour, easily fill several hours. From the city you can also visit Mdina, the old walled town on a hilltop, which is very quiet and ideal for photos.
If you want more, cross the harbour to the Three Cities, where Birgu still has a lovely seafaring atmosphere, or take a boat trip around the bay. These are simple plans that suit a short trip very well.
