Best time to visit
Vienna is lovely year-round, but October to November is ideal: cool weather, fewer crowds and better fares than summer. December brings Christmas markets if that appeals, but prices rise. Avoid July-August if you're hunting for good deals.
What to do when you arrive
Vienna airport (VIE) is 16 km from the centre, with easy train and bus connections. Must-sees: St Stephen's Cathedral, Schönbrunn and Hofburg palaces, museums along the Ring, and traditional coffee houses. The city is compact and very walkable.
