Best time to visit Athens
Athens is a year-round destination, but October to May is low season with cheaper prices and fewer crowds. If you fly in winter (December–February), you'll find more aggressive pricing. Spring (March–May) is ideal if you want mild weather without premium fares. Avoid July–August if you're chasing savings: that's peak season. The example journey is in January, a budget-friendly time.
What to do when you arrive in Athens
You land at Elefthérios Venizélos Airport (ATH), 35 km from the city centre. Metro, bus, or taxi get you downtown in 40 minutes. Don't miss the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, National Archaeological Museum, and Plaka. Eat souvlaki and fresh feta, stroll through Monastiraki at dusk. With extra days, Delphi (2 hours by bus) and the Saronic Islands are must-do short trips.
